Saddiq Pablo has lived in Bali for over twenty five years.  He has studied dance-ritual with accomplished Balinese dancers and has been teaching meditation and mysticism in the US and Bali.  He has led meditation centers in Puerto Rico and Maui, Hawaii.  He holds a Master’s degree in interdisciplinary study from Lesley University.  A great deal of his academic work was conducted in Bali and centered on ethnographic studies, myth, Jungian psychology, and Balinese dance in practice and theory. 

“Mask as Metaphor”
 Balinese Mask and Masking Workshop

Since ancient times, masks have played an important part in the multiplicity of cultures throughout world. They have been symbols of transformation and of the mystery which is veiled by appearances. Additionally, they have been objects of worship, used in shamanism, rites of passage, and healing and funerary ceremonies.

This workshop will begin with a demonstration of sacred mask dance which is significant part of temple ceremonies and rituals in Bali.  We will then explore masking as a powerful metaphor for self inquiry and discovery. Our group will examine the multiplicity of personalities we embody from a perspective of archetypal psychology, Balinese mysticism, and Sufi metaphysics. Participants will have an opportunity to try on masks and improvise with different characters.  This class is participatory.  No prior experience is necessary.

Introduction to Sufi Alchemy

Spiritualize the body, materialize the spirit.  Using ancient Sufi practices from esoteric and philosophical alchemy, participants will be guided through both active and passive meditations.  We will apply movement with Zikr (divine affirmation), meditation with light and sound, wazifa (transformational alchemical practices), as well as story, and metaphor, in a conscious attempt to achieve greater sense of freedom and awareness, and hence, transformation.

A message from Kelly:
In asking Lynne to host an earlier, group meditation during the day, it was
easier, to block that time aside, for just me.  Evenings for me, are full of
family, and social obligations.

The benefits of the silent meditation, are no distractions, other than your own
mind.  It is easier for me to focus on listening to spirit, when I hear nothing
with my physical body.  I am better able to use all the meditation tools I've
learned, with no outside influences. It is a powerful practice, group
meditation, that sets a strong foundation for my week.  In walking the
labyrinth, for a short time afterwards, it shows me how to carry that energy
throughout my everyday life.
